Why is Colorado Springs So Desirable to Home Buyers?
Between hundreds of beautiful hiking trails and a bustling downtown filled with great food, Colorado Springs is undoubtably a desirable place to live. In May of 2022, the U.S. News and World Report ranked Olympic City U.S.A as #2 Best Place to Live out of more than 150 cities across the nation. Read along in this month’s blog for several major reasons why Colorado Springs is so desirable:
1. Outdoor Recreation is Easily Accessible
When living in Colorado Springs, you are more than likely no more than a 20-minute drive to the mountains. Our city rests at the base of the 14,115-foot Pikes Peak, also called America’s mountain. The foothills of this iconic peak provide Colorado Springs residents with over 200 hiking and biking trails. The city is also extremely considerate of parks and open spaces, providing nearly every neighborhood in Colorado Springs with a park nearby. There are also opportunities for rock climbing, camping, paddle boarding, and more when living in Colorado Springs!
Popular outdoor spaces in Colorado Springs include Garden of the Gods, Red Rock Canyon Open Space, Memorial Park that features Prospect Lake, and Palmer Park. It is not uncommon to see a local to Colorado Springs wake up with the sunrise to catch a hike or bike ride before work. Residents are in such close proximity to recreational trails that they can manage their time to get fresh air and exercise every day!
2. The Sun Shines Almost Every Day
Colorado Springs averages about 300 days of sun each year! Although we see frequent snowstorms in the winter and foggy, rainy days periodically during the summer, you can expect the sun to shine again within a few hours. While Colorado Springs is considered a dry climate, the lack of humidity makes our hot summer days more bearable compared to humid states like Texas and Florida. From June to September, the average daily high temperature in Colorado Springs rests at a comfortable 76 degrees. Then, as the sun sets earlier and the weather gets colder as winter approaches each year, winters are still pretty manageable. Winter weather in Colorado Springs ranges from 28 degrees to 61 degrees. While bitter cold days do occur, the blankets of white, powdery snow make for beautiful scenery and cozy nights.
3. Local Businesses Flourish Throughout the City
While Colorado Springs is rapidly growing in new houses, apartments, and facilities, small businesses continue to flourish! Downtown Colorado Springs is quickly revamping with style, welcoming new hangouts like Trainwreck, a full bar and restaurant with a massive sports TV, sand volleyball, putting greens, cornhole, and more. You will also find boutique shopping experiences, unique dining options like Pub Dog Colorado where you can dine with your dog, and more.
According to a 2022 WalletHub study, Colorado Springs ranked the 9th best City in America out of 100 U.S. cities to start a business. Ranking factors of the study included Business Environment, Access to Resources, and Business Costs.
4. Colorado Springs Hosts Huge Events Year-Long
Between the Saint Patty’s Day Parade to Labor Day Lift Off, Colorado Springs knows how to celebrate! Several huge events are held annual through the year that are always a great experience for families. Be sure to mark your calendars for themed events like the Western Street Breakfast downtown, Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo, and more!
5. Relatively Affordable Housing Available in Colorado Springs
Though the housing demand quickly increased in recent years, Colorado Springs continues to be more affordable than its neighboring cities such as Denver or Fort Collins. At the time of publishing, the U.S. News and World Report ranked Colorado Springs living as highly desirable in part for the cost of living. The report stated that the average cost of a home in Colorado Springs was about $555,000, which is approximately $190,000 above the national average. While the average cost of homes in Colorado Springs was higher than the national average, the cost remained lower compared to Denver’s average of more than $642,000.
Colorado Springs living is so desirable for these five reasons, but the love for our city does not end there! Another major perk of living in Colorado Springs is the strong sense of community.
